New Van Hool coach joins Linburg's fleet

Robert DentonSpring 2016 saw Linburg place in service another high-quality Van Hool coach. Destined for UK touring duties for both Kuoni & Miki Travel as well as some Private Hire duties, this time Linburg opted for a Van Hool Alicron TX16 seating 53 passengers in comfort.

Linburg Director, John Hadaway explained “We were very keen to maintain our standardisation on the Daf-powered Van Hool product. The quality and reliability are second to none. Our passengers and drivers deserve nothing less. The slightly higher seating capacity gives our clients some useful extra flexibility. The coach is slightly longer than others, so there is no compromise in passenger leg-room and still retains all of the usual Van Hool creature-comfort such as WC/washroom, Air-conditioning, fridge, hot-drinks facility and multi-screen DVD. Client reaction is already leading me to think that the extra investment will prove to be worthwhile

Miki Travel & Linburg formalise collaboration

Robert DentonFebruary 2016 saw Linburg and Miki Travel strengthen their two-year old working relationship, with the signing of a new Contract calling for two of Linburgs Van Hool tour-coaches to be allocated to Miki’s UK Incoming Tourist Services for the 2016 season.

Linburg Director, John Hadaway commented “Miki Travel is world-renowned for it’s vast portfolio of travel products. Founded in 1967, it now has travel products in 173 Countries, all supported from 41 Miki Travel offices worldwide. Having worked with Miki for two years, I am delighted that they have recognised the commitment and experience of our drivers and management team as well as the quality of our Van Hool coach fleet. This has given them the confidence to entrust more of their business with Linburg, for which I am hugely grateful”.

Traffic Commissioners grant Linburg increased Authorisation

Robert DentonAs part of Linburg’s drive to meet demand from new and existing customers for it’s professional coach hire services, during 2015 it asked the Industry Regulator, the Traffic Commissioner, to give consideration to increasing the total number of vehicles that it was permitted to operate by around 20%.

The Traffic Commissioners staff requested and looked in great detail at information relating to all aspects of Linburg’s operation including vehicle & driver scheduling, vehicle engineering and the Company’s financial strength, before granting the application in full. Linburg General Manager, Sarah Hollis commented “It’s very pleasing indeed to see that the Traffic Commissioner and their staff look in such depth at such applications in order to ensure they only grant those where the Operators meet their very high standards. We’re very grateful to them for the time that they have spent on this. We’re looking forward to using the additional capacity to meet increased demand for our services in 2016 and beyond”.

Robert James Denton

Robert DentonLinburg Bus & Coach has been greatly saddened by the news of the death of coach driver Robert Denton on Sunday 17 January 2016 after a long and brave fight with lung disease that he first contracted whilst working as a Croupier in Sun City in the 1970's.

Known to Linburg Director, John Hadaway, since they met as employees of Carnell Tours in 1986, Robert's intelligence, wicked sense of humour, exceptional abilities as a driver and navigator throughout Europe and as a "people-person", made him extremely popular with clients, passengers and employers, as well as very many women who he met on his travels.

The Coach Travel Industry is a much poorer place without Robert, but we have no doubt that when we finally arrive at the first Peage in the sky, he will be waiting for us just the other side of the Toll Booth, with a cheeky grin and some wry comment questioning why it's taken us so long...

Tripod makes purrrrfect choices for Linburg’s Christmas Charitable Donations

Linburg Bus and Coach HireIn this Season of Goodwill, it is the turn of Tripod the Cat, the three-legged Head of Pest Control based at Linburg’s Derby depot, to choose the charities to which Linburg make their Christmas donations.

Tripod has worked for Linburg for a number of years, having hopped-in one day in search of work. “We discussed the possibilities and negotiated Contract Terms over a bowl of Tuna & Prawn” recalled Linburg Director, John Hadaway. Tripod has never looked back, initially taking on a part-time pest control role and working his way up to be Head of Pest Control of the entire Company. “He’s a real team player” John continued, “He literally lives at work and always has his paw on the pulse of what’s going on. He’s become the right-hand man – or perhaps I should say the left-paw cat - of Jamie Launder, the Operations Manager in Derby. They’re almost inseparable. In fact, when the depot suffered a small fire recently, everyone was evacuated but when Jamie realised that Tripod was unaccounted for, without giving a thought for the correct procedure, Jamie went straight back into the building to ensure his three-pawed pal was safe. They’re a proper team but I do wish Tripod wouldn’t insist on coming to work every day dressed in the colours of his favourite football team…”

Tripod purred “Not every cat is lucky enough to have a job like mine, so we’re going to give a little support to Cats Protection. I’ve lost a leg and I found it difficult for a while, so I want us to show our support and appreciation for the many soldiers and former-soldiers who have given so much for our Nation. We’re going to give a little support to Style for Soldiers and to Help for Heroes”.

Linburg add luxury double-decker option

Linburg luxury double decker To meet demand from Travel-Trade clients who need to transport large groups in luxury over long distances, Linburg has further extended the range of coaches available for hire from both it's Derby and Sheffield depots by adding a luxury double-decker option.

Linburg General Manager, Sarah Hollis officially launched the new service this week. “In between Travel-Trade commitments, we hope to be able to offer the luxury double-deck coach option to our many Private Hire customers. We've continued our standardisation on Van Hool coaches, as the quality, reliability and safety standards are second to none. With up to 79 reclining seats, air-conditioning, on-board WC/washroom, hot & cold drinks facility, double-glazing and central-heating, this is a great way for large groups to travel over long-distances. It also means that we can now also offer DDA-compliant wheelchair access too!” commented Sarah at the Official Launch.

Linburg Bus and Coach Hire August saw Linburg's Sheffield Operation undergo the most rigorous audit of its staff training, vehicle maintenance, operations and safety systems it has ever encountered in the company's history.

Industry-renowned and highly respected specialist Compliance Auditors, Lloyd Morgan, went through the entire operation with a “fine-tooth comb”, scrutinising staff training, drivers' hours of work, rostering, vehicle engineering plus record-keeping and system. Linburg Support for Cancer Research UK and Weston Park Hospital

Linburg Provides express Support Sunday 12 July 2015 will see Linburg Bus & Coach lend a little support to Weston Park Hospital in Sheffield and it's "Run in the Park" for the third consecutive year.

Linburg Director, John Hadaway said “Sadly cancer touches the lives of so many of us these days so I'm really pleased that here at Linburg Bus & Coach we will be providing a complementary Shuttle Bus Service for runners taking part in Weston Park Hospital's Cancer Charity 'Run in the Park' which is being held on July 12. It's what we do; It's what we're good at, so we had no hesitation in making this offer and we will continue to do so for as many years as we are needed and are able to do so. John went on to say "I know from personal experience what the amazing people at Weston Park do and I know they're incredibly good at it. New Van Hool TX15 joins Linburg Fleet

LinburgThe fourth VDL-powered Van Hool coach to join the Linburg coach hire fleet in recent months is this TX15 Alicron. Destined to carry passengers of Linburg's Private Hire & Travel-Trade customers, in common with it's sister vehicles it features air-cushioned suspension, 49 comfortable Van Hool reclining seats, double-glazing, multi-screen DVD, full climate-control including Sutrak air-conditioning, hot and cold drinks facilities and on-board washroom.

 Asiya Khanom of Linburg's Coach Hire Department commented “Before committing to the Van Hool product, the Company did consider cheaper alternatives, but I'm pleased to say that they opted for the highest quality product once again. “Incredible System” set to make debut in Linburg Fleet Maintenance Department

Shoppers bus serviceWith a fleet of coaches and buses operating across Britain and Europe from various depots, Linburg's unfailing drive for excellence in its vehicle maintenance and engineering functions has led it to invest in the “Truckfile” Fleet Management IT System, a web-based system that keeps drivers, Operations and Engineering Departments updated in real-time about vehicle maintenance status. Maintenance Systems, planning and records are visible on-line to all key personnel, with drivers and technicians able to update vehicle status from any location, no matter how remote and no matter what hour of the day or night, so long as there is wifi available.

“I have worked with various Systems but this one is incredible” was the judgement of Linburg Fleet Engineer, Mark Paulson. “The time invested in set-up and the cost of hardware is significant, but I have no doubt that our drivers and most of all, our passengers are very definitely worth it. There is no better way of planning and controlling the Vehicle Maintenance” Mark added.

Linburg invest in IT to boost “Green” Credentials

Linburg Continuing infrastructure investment by Linburg Bus & Coach has recently seen the installation of the Merridale Fuelworks web-based fuel management system across its entire fleet and depots.

The system utilises Merridale Auditor units and vLink vehicle monitoring to enable the Linburg Management Team to keep a close eye on the real-time fuel consumption of all of its buses, coaches and support vehicles from office-based PC's or even their smart-phones. “This technology enables us to identify fuel consumption issues very quickly” said Director John Hadaway. Bus & coach travel is already one of the greenest and most efficient methods of travel, but with monitoring of this level of accuracy, those “green” credentials are maximised.

“Our previous monitoring system was always at least a month out-of-date and relied on many hours of tedious work with pen-and-paper. With our increasing fleet size, this was becoming untenable” continued John. “Now we can see information for the entire fleet from any internet web-browser. It even tells us when we need to re-order fuel supplies. We spend hundreds of thousands of pounds on diesel each year, so having absolute control in this way has made the substantial investment even more worthwhile”.

“Every Little Helps” as Linburg step-in to maintain Shoppers Buses

Shoppers bus service Shoppers and commuters in Sheffield are now benefiting from Linburg Buses operating the 505 Park & Ride Services and free Shoppers Buses serving the Tesco store at Abbeydale, Sheffield. The Park & Ride Services give commuters the opportunity to leave their cars at the Tesco store and travel in and out of Sheffield City Centre without any parking worries.

The Shoppers Services link many Sheffield suburbs to the store and operate free-of-charge, five days a week. Linburg Operations Manager, Paul Major reported “Discussions had been on-going for a number of months with Tesco's agents, but in the end we only had a couple of weeks to put everything in place for the March 10th start date. Our Fleet Engineer, Mark Toon, worked very hard to source additional vehicles and his team burnt the midnight-oil to put the vehicles through a rigorous pre-service Workshop and Bodyshop programme to ensure all passengers had a bus to catch on the first morning”. Paul added that bus and coach travel is one of the greenest modes of transport and went on to say “To be operating services that contribute to minimising traffic on Sheffield streets and maintain a vital link for shoppers is particularly pleasing. Hats-off to Tesco for taking the initiative and supporting these Services with extensive financial support; And not forgetting the team at South Yorkshire Passenger Transport Executive who have supported and advised us throughout the process”. Kuoni and Gullivers place trust in Linburg

Linburg Provides express SupportA new development in 2013 has seen Linburg form an operating alliance with Kuoni and Gullivers Travel Associates.

Gullivers is part of the worldwide Travelport Group that contains twenty of the leading travel brands. Kuoni, founded in Switzerland in 1906 by Alfred Kuoni, has long been synonimous with high quality travel and brought that quality to the UK in 1965.

Whilst there are many Coach Companies in the UK., Kuoni & GTA reported that finding those with sufficiently high standards of reliability and professionalism to be entrusted with their prestigious Incoming Tourist business was a problem.
They turned to Linburg to help alleviate that difficulty.

Linburg Director, Gill Dawson, was delighted to be able to sign-off a two-year Contract to provide coaches and drivers to carry tourists from around the World on tours of The British Isles for both Kuoni and GTA. Gill announced in March 2013 that such was the importance of the new clients, that a further development of the coach fleet would see the delivery of another two high-quality, air-conditioned Van Hool tour-coaches from VDL-Van Hool coach concessionaires, Arriva Bus & Coach.
“We have continued our standardisation on the VDL-Van Hool product. The quality is second-to-none and we like the green-credentials of the smooth and powerful “Euro 5” engines. In between commitments with Kuoni and GTA, these coaches will be available for hire as part of our Private hire Fleet from our Derby and Sheffield depots” added Gill.

Gold-Medal Standard Connections with Cisco Systems and Linburg at London 2012

Linburg Provides express Support As the official Network Infrastructure Supporter for London 2012, Cisco Systems helped to deliver the most connected Games ever. This meant that Cisco's network infrastructure underpinned the delivery of voice, video and data traffic for London 2012 over 94 sites with 1800 Wireless Access Points, 16500 IP telephones, 65000 active connections and 80000 Data Ports.

Transport was required for 800,000 spectators & 55,000 athletes, officials and sponsors . However, for the ground-transport of their most valued executives and guests between venues and hotels, Cisco relied on Linburg Coaches to make the connection, providing luxury coach transfers for up to twenty-two hours a day around, across and throughout the Capital City with a team of drivers, coaches and support staff stationed at Heathrow Airport ensuring Cisco succeeded in making even more Gold-Medal standard connections.

Linburg Awarded Further Contracts

Linburg Provides express Support Linburg Bus & Coach are delighted to have been awarded further Contracts by Derbshire County Council to operate school-time bus services in the Etwall and Chapel-en-le-Frith areas. This means that Linburg buses can now be seen in all parts of Derbyshire operating services on behalf of Derbyshire County Council.

The Etwall area services are being operated from Linburg's existing Derby depot but an additional Out-Station has been established in Chapel-en-le-Frith to service the operations in the North West. Gill Dawson commented that the Company felt extremely honoured that Derbyshire County Council were showing such faith in Linburg and that they look forward to providing the service levels that all Linburg customers including DCC have grown to expect.

Linburg Provides express Support When National Express needed a reliable and trusted Contractor to step in at Short-Notice to cover the extremely-busy 330 Service from Derby to Penzance during 2011, they turned to their long-time loyal allies at Linburg Bus & Coach. A prompt response and some trade-mark hard work from drivers, engineers and management staff at Linburg ensured uninterupted continuity of service for holiday-makers and people visting family and friends on the National Express 330 Service.

94 Seat Double Decked Bus Following the award of 3 School Contracts at Friesland School, Long Eaton, Linburg Bus & Coach are delighted to have been awarded a Commercial Contract for the School. In order to fulfil this contract we have added 94 seat double decked buses, fully fitted with seatbelts, to our fleet. Ideal for transporting two or
even three school classes on one, economical vehicle. Sales Director, Gill Dawson believes this will open many more opportunities for the Derby and Sheffield branches.

New Derby Operating Centre Opens

Linburg Bus & Coach has significantly strengthened its commitment to its customers in the East Midlands with the opening in November 2010 of a new Derby Operating Centre.

Having buses and coaches permanently stationed in the centre of the City of Derby has further increased Linburg's ability to support its existing customers who include National Express, East Midlands Trains, CrossCountry Trains and Derbyshire County Council. It also means that Linburg Bus & Coach are able to provide professional bus and coach hire services to new customers in the corporate sector, schools, clubs and societies in the Derby and Nottingham areas.

Alvaston For Operations Director, John Hadaway, this has been something of an overdue business homecoming. His Great Grandfather, William Potter, pictured here on the left, operated horse-drawn coaches in Derby at the beginning of the Twentieth Century. Business was brought to an abrupt holt however when, on the outbreak of The Great War, the Company's horses were requisitioned by the Army for the war effort. William's best horse however never made it out of Derby let-alone to the frontline, as unused to being saddled and ridden by an Army Officer, it bolted complete with rider, straight through the plate glass window of The Midland Drapery on St Peters Street in Derby, where the horse died of its injuries. Nearly one hundred years later, John is excited to be picking up the reigns on behalf of his Great Grandfather, bringing his own many years of professional coach hire operations experience back to Derby, supported by Linburg Bus & Coach Sales Director, Gill Dawson, also a Derbyshire resident.

Things have changed a lot in a hundred years. Linburg Leads the Way in School to Pool Transport
